One thing I never thought of until this podcast: Another great thing about Lewis’s character is that there’s never even a hint of her becoming a love interest, which is something that would definitely happen in every other movie ever.
Also, I’ve always loved the layers of bad guys in this movie. You’ve got Bob Morton vs. Dick Jones, Dick Jones vs. Bodicker, Bodicker vs. Morton, and in each situation you’re rooting for a different guy.
And I’m eternally glad that I somehow never saw a preview for Robocop before I saw it in the theater. The previews at the time showed ED-209 shooting the guy in the board room, but when I saw the movie I had no idea that was coming, and it was an excellent moment of, “Oh no, wait. Seriously??”
Totally agree that in this day and age, they would have had a Lewis-Murphy love angle at some point of the movie, which cheapens her character in a way, as she works so well as a strong female character in a testosterone-filled movie.
So many bad guys, guns! guns! guns! I now need to show Robocop to someone who has never seen it, and watch their reaction when ED-209 unloads on Mr. Kenney. Thanks for the idea haha.
